The Research Computing team is available to discuss any aspects of computing related to your research. If you have any questions, or think that we may be able to assist you with planning for your project, please reach out to us by submitting a ticket.

When should you reach out?
Please reach out to us as early as possible in the lifecycle of your research project, as some things can take time to implement and support in the research environment. However, we are here to support you at any stage of your project, whether it be pre-award or post-award.

The UBCO Research Computing team offers support for the technical aspects of grant applications that involve computing, data, or technology infrastructure. We can assist with:

  • Reviewing and refining the technical components of your grant proposal.

  • Supplying details about in-kind contributions related to UBCO’s research computing infrastructure, when required.

  • Evaluating your research design for compatibility with available software, methodologies, and computing/storage systems at UBCO.

  • Providing cost estimates or formal quotes for research computing hardware and services.

  • Recommending appropriate compute and storage solutions for managing data from lab instruments, sensors, and other research equipment.

We’re here to ensure your project is technically sound and aligns with the resources available at UBC Okanagan.

UBCO Research Computing provides a range of technical services to support active research projects across disciplines. Our team can assist with:

  • Hosting your research computing systems or data in our secure data centre.

  • Configuring and troubleshooting research hardware/software in your lab

  • Training and onboarding researchers and students to effectively use the computing and storage platforms provided at UBCO.

  • Cloud-based research projects, cybersecurity reviews (in collaboration with UBC’s Information Security Office), and aligning infrastructure with your projects technical needs.

We work closely with UBCO faculty and research support teams to ensure your project is well-supported from start to finish.

If you’re unsure what software, equipment, or methods are best suited for your research project, UBCO Research Computing can help you make informed decisions.

  • We provide guidance on research computing tools and workflows, including recommendations for software, hardware, platforms, and infrastructure suited to your project goals.

  • UBC researchers have access to a wide range of licensed software and advanced computing resources, such as the UBC Advanced Research Computing (ARC) Sockeye cluster, cloud services, and a variety of storage options such as the ARC Chinook object storage platform.

  • We can help you understand what’s already available through UBC and advise on whether additional resources or purchases are necessary.

  • If you’re planning to purchase computing hardware for your research, we can consult on design, compatibility, and pricing, and discuss options for hosting your equipment in our secure data centre if necessary.

We’re here to ensure your project starts with a strong technical foundation that aligns with the infrastructure and services available at UBC Okanagan.
